Sung by Flora Benamor, Tetuán, 1956.
King Nimbrod (or Nimrod), the grandson of Noah, a
mighty warrior and ruler of Babylon, sees a star in
the heavens which announces the birth of Abraham, the
first patriarch and founder of Judaism. According to
prophecy, this child would challenge Nimbrod's rule,
destroy all idols, and found a new religion based on
worship of One God. Because of his faith and devotion
to God (having been willing to sacrifice his son Isaac),
Abraham receives His promise to give the land of Canaan
to his people, thus creating the Hebrew nation.
When King Nimbrod
Went to the country,
He gazed at the sky;
Among the stars.
There he saw a holy light
In the Jewish quarter,
That about to be born
Was Abraham abinú,
Was Abraham abinú.
Dear Father,
Blessed Father,
Oh, light of Israel;
We greet our Father
and all those present
who, for his dejud,
the goe will come.
Jima to all Israel,
Surely we will worship
His Holy Name:
Abraham abinú,
Dear Father,
Blessed Father,
Light of Israel.
