| 3.Moses
Left Egypt: |
 |
|
Sung by Alicia Benassayag, Tetuán, 1956.
This Moses ballad chronicles familiar incidents in
the life of the prophet: his flight from Egypt to Midian,
(after killing an Egyptian for abusing a Jew), his meeting
with the Midian priest whose flock he saves, and marriage
to his daughter Zipporah. Moses leads his father-in-law's
flock to Mount Horeb("the mountain of God"),
sees the burning bush, and receives instructions from
God for the liberation of the Hebrews from the Egyptians.
Moses left Egypt
Fleeing from the Pharaoh;
He went straight to Midian
Where he met Jethro.
He gave him his daughter, Zipporah,
Because he feared God;
Moses tended the cattle
His father-in-law gave him.
Moses tended the cattle,
Led them to Mount Horeb.
He saw the burning bush,
The bush that did not burn.
Moses covered his eyes,
Afraid to see God;
He heard a voice that said:
'Moses, Moses, my servant,
Take off your shoes
For you are on holy ground.
“Go to the Pharaoh
And tell him to give you the keys
Of my people, the Hebrews.
“If he doesn't give them to you,
I will punish him
By ordering ten plagues,
So he understands who I am.
Refrain:
Praised be God
Who is goodness
Praised be God for his kindness
For all eternity, his mercy.
Praised be thy name~
For you have always been bountiful;
And in heaven and on earth,
Your mercy has never faltered.

3. Mosé salió de Misraím: |
 |
|
Sung by Alicia Benassayag, Tetuán, 1956.

Mosé salió de Misraím
huyendo de Parhó
y se fué derecho a Midian
y se encentró con Yitro.
Le dió a Cipora, su hija
porque era temiente a Dios;
Mosé paseando el ganado
que su suegro le entregó.
Mosé paseando el ganado,
al monte Horeb llegó,
viera arder una zarza,
la zarza no se quemó
Mosé se cubrió sus ojos,
temiendo ver a Dios;
oyó una voz que decía:
"Mosé, Mosé, mi siervo,
descalza los tus zapatos
que en lugar santo estás tu.
“Te irás al rey Parhó
que te entregue las llaves
de mi pueblo el hebreo.
“Y si no te las entregare,
castigarle quiero yo
con diez plagas que le mandé
para sepa quien soy yo.”
Coro:
Hodu la Adonai, guitob
qui le holam hasdo
alabado séa Dios que es bueno
para la eternidad su misericordia.
Alabado séa tu nombre,
porque siempre bien nos dió
y en los cielos y en la tierra,
tu merced nunca faltó.
