 4. To Mount Sinai:

Sung by Ester Cadoch Israel's Family, Tetuán, 1956.

According to this fragment of the Exodus story, Moses receives the Sacred Law from God on Mount Sinai, breaks the two tablets, and pieces a few fragments together. Omitted is Moses' reason for breaking them: his anger at the Hebrews for worshipping the golden calf. The Ten Commandments, as we know them today, were inscribed by God's hand on two new tablets received by Moses on his second trip to Mount Sinai.

Moses the Learned
Climbed Mount Sinai,
Accompanied by Joshua,
His good friend.

Los angels were astonished
To see such a beloved man;
God, with His own hand,
Inscribed the Holy Law.

And God, with His own hand,
Inscribed the Holy Law;
On tablets like diamonds,
He delivered them to Moses.

On tablets like diamonds,
He delivered them to Moses;
As he descended the mountain,
The tablets were broken.

As he descended the mountain,
The tablets were broken;
The pieces that were left
By Moses were repaired.

The pieces that were left
By Moses were repaired;
And Moses joyfully
Showed them to the children.

Oh, my God, we shall fix it,
Holy, Holy, we shall forge it;
We shall light the menorah
With Heaven's help.

Our esteemed Laws
Brought from the Highest,
Brought from the Highest,
Engraved in Israel.

4. Al monte de Sinai:

Sung by Ester Cadoch Israel's Family, Tetuán, 1956.

Al monte de Sinai
subió el señor Mosé,
señor Josua en compañía,
porque siempre bien le fué.

Los malachim se espantaron
de ver a un hombre amado;
y Dios, con su propia mano,
la Ley Santa le escribió.

Y Dios con su propia mano,
la Ley Santa le escribió;
y en tablas de diamante,
a Mosé se la entregó.

Y en tablas de diamante,
a Mosé se la entregó;
y al bajar de los montes,
las tablas se le quebró.

Y al bajar de los montes,
las tablas se le quebró;
los cachitos que quedaban
Mosé los apañó.

Los cachitos que quedaban
Mosé los apañó;
y Mosé con alegría
a los chiquitos enseñó
Ay, mi Dios te haremos,
Santa, Santa, fraguaremos;
la menorah encenderemos
con la ayuda de los cielos.

Nuestra leye estimada
de las humot apartada,
de las humot apartada,
de Israel engrabada.
