 6. King David Has a Son:

Sung by a member of Ester Cadoch Israel's family.

Ablon, the son of the biblical King David, is in love with his sister Tamar. In order to see her alone, he feigns illness, and asks that she bring him a little turkey breast. Once in his room, he rapes her. Afterwards, she wanders along the road, and accidently meets her brother Absalom who promises to avenge her honor.

King David has a son,
A son by the name of Ablon;
In love with Tamar,
Although she was his own sister.

In love with Tamar,
Although she was his own sister.
Overpowered by love,
He fell ill and went to bed.

Overpowered by love
He fell ill and went to bed.
One day in the morning
His father came in to see him.

One day in the morning
His father came in to see him:
"Tell me what's the matter, Ablon,
My son, my soul?

Tell me what's the matter, Ablon,
My son, my soul?"
"I am ill, my king, my father;
I am ill, and I cannot eat."

"Would you eat, Ablon,
A little turkey breast?"
"I will eat it, father,
If Tamar prepares it."

"I will tell Tamar
To prepare and bring it to you.”
"If she happens to come,
Let her come alone, unaccompanied."

As he spoke these words, Tamar came through the door:
"What's the matter, tell me, Ablon,
My brother, my soul"

"My love for you, Tamar,
Has brought me to this bed."
"If loving me makes you ill,
Don't get out of that bed."

Reaching for her breast,
He pulled her into bed;
The screams Tamar uttere
d, Caused storms in the seven heavens.

Feeling sad, Tamar left,
Feeling sad and angry.
Along yonder road,
She met Absalon by chance.

Along yonder road,
She met Absalon by chance:
"What's the matter, tell me, Tamar,
My sister, my soul.

What's the matter, tell me, Tamar,
My sister, my soul."
"Today Ablon, my brother,
Robbed me of my virtue and honor.

Today Ablon, my brother,
Robbed me of my virtue and honor.
"Don't feel bad, Tamar;
Don't feel bad, my sister.

Don't feel bad, Tamar;
Don't feel bad, my sister.
Before the sun goes down
You will be well avenged."

6. Un hijo tiene el rey David:

Sung by a member of Ester Cadoch Israel's family.

Un hijo tiene el rey David,
un hijo que por nombre Ablon;
enamoróse de Tamar,
aunque era su propia hermana.

Enamoróse de Tamar,
aunque era su propia hermana.
fuerte fueron los amores,
malo cayó y metido en cama.

Fuerte fueron los amores,
malo cayó y metido en cama.
un día por la mañana
su padre, a verle, entrara.

Un día por la mañana
su padre, a verle, entrara:
“¿Qué tienes, dí tú, Ablon
hijo mío y de mi alma?

“¿Qué tienes dí tú, Ablon,
hijo mío y de mi alma?"
"Malo estoy yo, el rey mi padre;

y a la cama la arronjara;
de gritos que diera Tamar,
siete cielos huracanaban.

Triste saliera Tamar,
triste saliera y mal airada.
en mitad de aquél camino,
con Absalon se encontrara.

En mitad de aquél camino,
con Absalon se encontrara:
“¿Qué tienes, dí tú, Tamar,
hermana mía y de mi alma?"

“Que tienes, dí tú, Tamar,
hermana mía y de mi alma?"
"Hoy Ablon , mi hermano
me quitó mi honra y fama.

Hoy Ablon, mi hermano,
me quitó mi honra y fama."
"No te da nada, Tamar.
no te da nada, mi hermana.

“No te da nada, Tamar;
no te da nada, mi hermana.
que antes de que arraye el sol
tu serás la bien juzgada."
